Hands-On Assignment 2
Hands-On Assignment 2
Part A
To me, media are every form of communication between people to people such as Tv, radio, flyers, billboards, etc..., even reporters and anchormen or anchorwomen are considered parts of media. Social networking is basically just people-to-people communicating through dedicated online websites or applications, and it has been rapidly developing due to the increasing need for real-time communication.
I'm currently using 8 social media sites: Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Twitch, Reddit, Linkedin, Handshake, and Indeed. With Facebook, I mostly use them to communicate with friends or family because I have multiple relatives that use this site so I also use it to easily communicate with them, I rarely post anything or keep track of news on Facebook. As for Instagram, I mainly use it to express myself through random pictures that I find interesting and my art, and I feel freer on Instagram because it provides more privacy for users. Most of the short entertaining content I learn about is from Tik Tok, I spent at least 30 minutes a day just scrolling through a seemingly endless content stream on Tik Tok, even though it's just a combination of multiple short videos but it's entertaining to me and it's great for killing time. I also play games so I use Twitch which is mainly where people live-stream their gameplay and chat with their community, this is a great social media site if you want to have a nice, and chilling stream to play in the background while you are studying, so even though I spent hours on this site every day, I mainly put it on just to play in the background while I study. Reddit is a site where I seek information because you can find all types of questions there, and almost certainly someone there will know the answer, plus I believe it is more reliable and quicker to find the solutions compared to when you try to Google something and look sequentially through each site for the answer. Lastly, Linkedin, Handshake, and Indeed are the three business social media sites that I use to look for internships or full-time jobs, I only use those to connect to businesses, and entrepreneurs while also keeping track of trends within big cooperations and industries, and since I'm actively looking for jobs, I log on to them every day to check for opportunities.
I try to avoid focusing too much on social media because it will actually distract me from important things in life like my education, friends, and family. I only considered them as a form of communication and entertainment and I won't waste my most precious resource, which is my time, on social media platforms. I know that my opinion is unpopular and most people disagree with me including my friends, but I still think it's true and will still apply for a long time later. Carried away with social media sites and neglecting other truly matters things in your real life is such a waste of time because, in the end, the identity you created online is just a virtual identity, how you act and behave in real life that defines who you are. But with the age of technology advancing, most people seem to have forgotten about this simple fact.
