Understanding social media trends also means that you must be able to predict the next technological breakthrough and the preferences of the current and upcoming human generations. Many people believed that social media trends have always been set by influencers and celebrities, but in my mind, entrepreneurs have always been the ones who held that crucial role. Since entrepreneurs are those that can quickly capture the movements of the young generations and expand beyond everyone's expectations with innovations and technology, they have essentially developed and created those mobile applications of social media platforms for us to use with convenience. Smartphones or just portable devices in general have become a necessity in everyone's life, and come with them is a wide variety of mobile features and social applications. Having start-ups with great innovative ideas willing to spend efforts and time, in addition to angel investors that are willing to spend money to help fund those ideas would create a bright future.

As for social media trends, I have always found them to be somewhat entertaining at first but eventually dull and then die down as fast as when they rose. Also, a portion of people following these trends tends to get carried away from the potential to achieve a balanced schedule between online and real life. Instead, they spent more and more time online creating seem effortless videos to chase Internet clout, for example, Tik Tok trending videos are short roughly 60 seconds videos, which makes them easy to copy, cost-effective, and they used choruses from different types of music to make it even more addictive. Another element that would affect social media trends in the future is the implication of Artificial Intelligence (AI), ChatGPT which is an AI chatbot that has shown "groundbreaking abilities to perform tasks it hadn’t explicitly learned" (Glover, 2023).  Augmented Reality such as the Metaverse will also become widely expected due to the potential of its diversity as well as its implications for communication, from business uses like "employees conduct business, undergo training, and communicate with others, both internally and externally" (Germain, 2023), to consumer goods sales such as "selling digital representations of products like fashion and makeup, buying advertising space in games, or AR environments where you can now purchase airspace for your ad or coupon" (Germain, 2023). Overall, the actual usage of Artificial Intelligence in social media and for creating social media trends has already exceeded its estimation by a mile and we'll have to wait and see how well will this specific technology contributes to social media users' experience.
